Tyre repair

How long does the tube patch need to dry on the tube until I can pump up the tyre again and until it is fully resilient again

The tyre can be pumped up and used immediately after the repair. The only waiting time you have with our repair materials is a minimum of 5 minutes after applying the vulcanization solution. The ingredients of our REMA TIP TOP vulcanization solutions and our REMA TIP TOP patches are synchronized so that the cold-vulcanization (splicing of the patch and tube material) happens at first contact and is completed after 24 hours. The tyre, however, can be used immediately after the splicing with no risk.

For this problem we recommend REMA TIP TOP Bicycle cleaner. The bicycle cleaner reliably removes oil and grease and at the same time its acid-free content protects the surface. Let the product react well and then wash it off thoroughly with water.

Is there a best before date for the TT-Seal preventive tyre sealant?

Is there a best before date for the TT-Seal preventive tyre sealant?

Our preventive sealing product TT-Seal is water-based and contains micro fibres to seal small leaks. TT-Seal is good for 4 years inside the wheel tube as long as the air in it is not changed too often. Although the humidity of the product is released into the air in the tube, it condenses again and goes back into the product. By means of this constant movement, the condensation water mixes with the product and keeps it pasty.

Did you know, that our product was praised in the February/March issue 2007 of the bike travel magazine “RADtouren”?

What is the expiration date for the vulcanization fluid?

What is the expiration date for the vulcanization fluid?

The expiration date for the REMA TIP TOP vulcanization fluid is 4 years counting from the production date and provided the product has not been opened.

You can find this number at the bottom of the tube. This number is the production batch number and also shows the production week (e.g. A 077 = 7th week of 2007). We recommend storing the REMA TIP TOP vulcanization fluid in a cool, dry, dark space to provide durability of 4 years. With high temperatures, the best before date decreases. Refrigerating it at temperatures of 3°C to 4°C will increase the durability slightly. It is important to always keep the tubes air tight in order to prevent evaporation.

Can I increase the durability by storing it at -20°C or do I damage the adhesive?

Can I increase the durability by storing it at -20°C or do I damage the adhesive?

It is not recommended to keep the adhesive at or below -20°C because the product consists of natural rubber, whose molecules may disintegrate during the freezing process.

Do you have a suitable tyre patches in your product portfolio?

Do you have a suitable tyre patches in your product portfolio?

We produce special reinforced tyre patches. These patches are part of our Tubeless Rep-set, catalogue No. TT05 and TT06.

Can I also fill TT-SEAL into tubes with racing bike valves?

Can I also fill TT-SEAL into tubes with racing bike valves?

Yes, but this is only possible if you are using racing bike valves with pivotable valve sockets. If you are using non-pivotable valves (such as car- or speed valves), you cannot use TT-SEAL. The opening between the valve shaft and the valve cone is too narrow. The micro fabrics and rubber particles will not be able to pass it and you will only press the gel into the tube.

How to repair a tube?

How to repair a tube?

Demount the tyre with a TIP TOP tyre-mounting lever (Art.nr. 596 0224). There are 2 ways to find the leak: Pump up the tube and either use the TIP TOP leak snuffler (Art.Nr. 552 4062) or a bucket of water. Let the air out of the tube. Cut the dry leak. To prevent strain breakage it is best to round the hole with a pair of scissors and then mark it. Choose a fitting patch (it should be 3mm bigger than the leak at each side). Nap the area in the size of the leak with the given napping paper. Now put on the vulcanization fluid once and, depending on the ambience temperature, wait at least 5 minutes. Remove the aluminium protection layer and put the patch on the leak and grind the patch with pressure. (Tip: The aluminium protection layer has a seam in the middle so you can remove it easily by simply bending the patch a little bit.) Now simply mount the tyre and you are done. Note: Repairs should be done outdoors or in a well-ventilated work place. The vulcanization fluid should not be exposed to direct sunlight or draft. Please do not try to accelerate the drying time with a blow-dryer etc. Replace the cap of the vulcanization fluid tube after use.

What is the little rubber tube in TT02 good for?

What is the little rubber tube in TT02 good for?

The rubber tube is made for old Dunlop valves with a valve cone. The rubber tube is plugged over the lower side of the cone so that air can not escape. The rubber tube is part of our catalogue because it is still sold world-wide. This type of valve is rarely used in Europe.

Bike care

Is the REMA TIP TOP bicycle cleaner also suitable for carbon bikes or should it be used for aluminium and steel frames only?

Is the REMA TIP TOP bicycle cleaner also suitable for carbon bikes or should it be used for aluminium and steel frames only?

We tested our products this year on unpainted carbon and can confirm that our product is also suitable for cleaning of carbon frames. Please note, as with all bike frames you should use our products as described on the reverse. Test the surface for material resistance on an inconspicuous place before cleaning.

Which oil do you recommend for the spring fork?

Which oil do you recommend for the spring fork?

For the care of spring forks we recommend our REMA TIP TOP care oil. The oil with corrosion protection has excellent crawling properties and provides a long lasting, transparent and even lubrication film. The product is also resin-free.

Which chain oil do you recommend for the maintenance unconscious cyclist?

Which chain oil do you recommend for the maintenance unconscious cyclist?

For the least maintenance-oriented cyclists, we have found an ideal solution with our REMA TIP TOP chain spray. The product is adhesive and water-repellent. The spray is simply applied on the chain and should then adhere to the chain. After that, we recommend that you clean off the chain gently with a piece of cloth to prevent dirt from sticking to the chain. This should keep the chain care-free for weeks. For those who prefer an even higher quality, we recommend NANO-DIAMOND chain spray or chain oil. This product is also a long-time lubricant with excellent adhesive properties. Furthermore the surface is being closed by means of nano technology, decreasing the friction and therefore abrasion. By the way, we just recently got praised for this product by the “Ghost” racing team.

How exactly does the Nano Diamond chain spray work?

How exactly does the Nano Diamond chain spray work?

Nano diamond (greek nãnos = dwarf) are small synthetic diamonds the size of one to two atom diameters. They have the same chemical and physical properties of regular diamonds: extreme hardness, good heat conductivity and extremely smooth surfaces. Even-polished metals have good, rough, cliffy surfaces when seen through an electron microscope. If two metal surfaces grind on each other like for example a chain on a hub tooth, they will produce heat and friction that causes early abrasion. Ordinary greases or oils fill up the rough surface with a lubrication film between the metals. The disadvantage is the chemical and physical instability of these lubricants. The effect does not last very long, especially when under pressure. The nano diamond additives in the chain spray also fill up the spaces in the surface structures of the metal. But due to their extreme durability they will be neither destroyed mechanically nor chemically decomposed. They thereby level off the seemingly smooth surface of the metal a lot more efficiently and thus last longer. The oil can fulfil its function as a lubricant between the metal surfaces perfectly. The friction coefficient is decreased by 6 to 20 percent and the abrasion is decreased 10 times. Dust and dirt cannot accumulate so easily any more.

What are the technical specifications of the Nano Diamond chain spray?

What are the technical specifications of the Nano Diamond chain spray?

The used raw oils are highly refined with synthetic ester and performance additives for optimal aging, abrasion and corrosion protection. The product does not resinify. By adding nano diamonds we can reach an improvement of the Brugg value according to DIN 51347 from 71 to 60 N / mm². This is an improvement of 15%. The Reichert abrasion value which is a standard measure of the abrasion of chains is improved 7 times by adding nano diamonds: from 202kg/cm² to 1500kg/cm². By the way, beginning this year, we now offer the Nano Chain spray in user- friendly 50ml bottles. Background knowledge - about this technology: Polished material viewed under an electron microscope appears as a rough, cliffy structure. The size of industrially produced nano diamonds is on a nano scale (10-9). Because of that they can smoothen the surface even at complicated parts of the metal.

I have had the problem that even though the Aerosol can with REMA TIP TOP protection wax is half-full, no wax is coming out of it.

I have had the problem that even though the Aerosol can with REMA TIP TOP protection wax is half-full, no wax is coming out of it.

It is necessary to shake the bottle before usage. Furthermore, it is important to keep it at room temperature, because at this or higher temperatures, the wax is at low viscosity and will flow easily. If the can is stored in a garage for example at 0°C it might clog. The valve should be emptied after usage to prevent wax rests from clogging the spray head.
